Alabama Driver Refuses To Apologize After Court Orders Him To Say Sorry Or Face 30 Days In Jail For Telling Officer “Get Your A** Out Of The Way”

39-year-old Reginald Burks must apologize for cursing at a cop or face 30 days in jail, according to new report reaching us at Dreddsworld.

Per Alabama news, it all started when an officer whose radar gun was broken, pulled Burks over while he was taking his kids to school.

He says he used cruise control to estimate Burks’ speed. “I told him he was full of crap because there’s no way that he clocked my speed by cruise control,” Burks said. “I said, ‘Get your a** out of the way so I can take my kids to school,” Burks said.

“My daughter’s like, ‘Daddy you cursed!’ And I said, ‘I’m sorry boo!”

Burks says he doesn’t want to apologize because he shouldn’t have to go to jail over a free-speech matter. “What am I going to do? I’m going to jail,” Burks told AL.com. “I ain’t writing no letter. I can’t do it. I don’t see where it’s legal for him to do that.”

A law professor at the University of Alabama, Jenny Carroll, says he agrees with Burks.

“I think it is one of those judicial orders that is sufficiently questionable that we ought to say, is it really proportional to give a 30-day sentence if he won’t say he’s sorry?”

Netizens have since been reacting to the news. “Stand on business king! Tf freedom of speech ! I am not apologizing for a broken ego!!” someone commented. “The first amendment? You can cuss at the police, and not get in trouble…” another person wrote.
