Family Of Slain HBCU Student Wants Atlanta’s Elleven45 Lounge Shut Down For Allowing A Firearm Inside Club

On early Sunday morning, around 2:30 AM, gunfire broke out at the Elleven45 lounge in Atlanta, GA, following a fight that led to the tragic death of 21-year-old Mari Creighton.

Michael Seiden of Channel 2 spoke with Creighton’s family on Monday while he was in Henry County.

Family members claim that while Creighton was out enjoying her niece’s birthday during the weekend, there was a brawl inside the Buckhead Elleven45 lounge. Shots were fired, and by the time bullets had ceased, Creighton had already lost her life. Taylor Holmes, her 22-year-old niece, sustained injuries as well.

Due to the Eleven45 nightclub’s lack of protection that night, which allowed a firearm inside, the family of Creighton has begun a petition to have the establishment closed after a video of the incident was captured inside and went viral on social media.

According to her family, Creighton was a standout volleyball player at Albany State University and just one semester away from earning a biology degree. Albany State’s athletic department dedicated a post to remembrance of the student.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our student-athletes – Mariam Creighton. The Golden Ram athletics community extends heartfelt condolences to Mari’s family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.”

“It’s just senseless. My sister was just out having a good time, and now our lives are just altered forever,” The victim’s sister stated.

20-year-old Nakyris Ridley was also hit and killed by the Eleven45 nightclub shooter, while four others sustained injuries from the incident. Investigators say that all victims are between ages 20 and 30.
